So what's next? Well, the union now has a mandate to prepare a position paper. Flowers told us more.
Dean Flowers, President, PSU:
"The PSU is not, I don't believe that it is our place to determine what ultimately government policies are, but it is our place and it is our right to influence and to ensure that those policies are effected properly. They have botched this process and deliberately, what they intended to do is to do the exact same thing, to come like a thief in the night and affect people's livelihood, like what they did with those employees at the corporate and companies affairs registry and what they did with those people at IMMARBE with the ship registry, what they did with those people at Legal Aid. But thankfully, there were these people who were asking questions and they had no other option but to come out and to say something. Albeit, they said nothing and the day Michelle Longsworth shared those minutes with me and we were able to agree on the content of those minutes and thank goodness the president of the BNTU was in that meeting. Thank goodness the human resource director of MPS was in that meeting. Thank goodness the president of APSSM and retired chief magistrate was in that building. So they all know what was said and what wasn't said and those minutes need to reflect the grass incompetence of Ms. Longsworth and her team and the fact that they don't know what the hell they're doing and that they're managing this process terribly in the same way that they horribly managed the amalgamation process which has not yielded any benefits to the Belizean people."
Reporter:
"Needless to say protest if they don't do what you're asking?"
Dean Flowers, President, PSU:
"No, the position paper that we're preparing is being drafted to be sent to the cabinet secretary and the Ministry of Finance."
Reporter:
"When?"
Dean Flowers, President, PSU:
"We're hoping to have that done before the end of the week. That position paper, because it's not a cabinet paper, it's a position paper of what the staff members are saying, how they wish for this process to proceed. Right? Whether it's SARRA or not, this is our position on how this matter is supposed to be addressed and I wish that, and I didn't hear it here, but I wish that part of one of the first proposals would have been to adjust the leadership within that department. But that position paper will give cabinet the sentiments of the employees in terms of how this thing will work because this country could see a crisis. What if all 236 of course excluding party supporters and certain management staff decide to attend a transfer request?"
"How will we then effectively ensure that businesses are paying their fair share and that the work is being done to ensure that public service can continue because we're heavily dependent on the revenue influence? So this could turn out to be one serious economic crisis for this country."
