And, while the police department faces this persistent problem at the biggest police station in the country, it comes - ironically - at a time when government is implementing a 30 million dollar CABEI loan to strengthen citizen security through investments in infrastructure and equipment.
Now, that loan has been around from 2014 - and they PUP have boasted that they are the first to harness it fully. But, even as those investments are made, there's still plenty of infrastructural failures. We asked Musa bout that:
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs:
"The CABEI project is something that has, been long promised, under both administrations. But it was absolutely abandoned under the last administration, and it's only now being reignited, to the point where we're actually seeing results coming and we're actually going to be having groundbreaking happening, I think starting off with Bella Vista."
"And so we now seeing the build, we are now going to see the buildings come to fruition that we've long promised. San Narciso, Caye Caulker, Chetumal Street, all of these buildings, Santa Elena will have a new police station will be coming to fruition."
