So while you have heard the technical and emotional side of this story - there's also a very deep political dimension. As you heard, the Chairman made some very specific allegations against two ranking Ministers: Jose Mai and Kareem Musa. We asked him about that:

Nickoli Alvarado, Chairman - Boston Village

"And I'm very ashamed of my ministers them. Very ashamed."

Jules Vasquez
"Now, to be clear, you are a Boston villager. And that is at your heart. But you're a PUP chairman. So there's no easy thing for you to stand up and say."

Nickoli Alvarado, Chairman - Boston Village
"Let me tell you something, Mr. Jules, right? Anybody who asked for me, they don't like me, because I no stand for fool, right? I don't care. You could be a PUP minister, right?"

"These two ministers that I am angry with, these are high PUP ministers. Very high. Right? These are high PUP ministers, but you have to do the right thing. And the end of the day, the people elect me to be a custodian of my village, right?"

"So that is what I have to do."

Jose Mai has told us he was simply answering a call from a constituent and happened to be in the company of the Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa. When he heard it was a dispute with the police, he handed the phone to Musa who told us, quote, "it was not a call to stand down but rather a query made after I was informed that the village chair was using police to intervene in a civil logging matter without a court order or stop order from Forestry."
