He was known as a career police officer who rose up the ranks to be the Deputy Commissioner of Police under Chester Williams. Since then Edward Broaster has retired - but instead of slipping into the shadows, he's made a surprising resurgence into public life as a UDP politician. On Sunday, he surprised some when he had a massive victory in the Belize Rural Central caretaker convention, besting his opponent Kerry Belisle by a margin of 822 to 285 votes.
Today he discussed his hopes for a political future with Jomarie Lanza:
Edward Broaster, UDP Caretaker, Belize Rural Central
"Well my body Lee Mark told me that I have always emphasized the mantra of if you see something, say something, do something right so we saw what was happening with the United Democratic Party and I decided to lend my credibility and integrity to the process in trying to unify the party and bring Tracy Taegar Panton as the leader of the party and move forward."

"Everybody knows the disarray the United Democratic Party was in and is in at this time, come November we will ensure that we have a viable party that will enable us to overcome those challenges that happened in March of 2025. And I am sure that we will be victorious. The residents are tired of politicians coming to visit them for an X and then they don't see them for the next five years and treat them with disdain and disregard and like I told my constituents I will not lie to them and I will not hide from them and I am going to work for them so we have a good feeling that we will turn Belize Central UDP come the next general election."
In a strange but credible political rumor we heard today, Broaster's one time Compol and one time arch-enemy Chester Williams may also be expressing an interest in that Rural Central seat for the PUP. We'll see where that one goes.
