And, now that Bennett leaves the Coast Guard kind of abruptly, who will succeed him?
According to our sources, there are three senior, highly trained officers being considered:
Captain Greg Soberanis
Commander Alama Pinelo
And Freddie Ku, Lieutenant Commander
We tried to ask him who should get it. But Bennett would not commit:
Jules Vasquez
"But who should succeed you?"
Admiral Elton Bennett, CEO - Home Affairs
"So I will make recommendations to the Minister of National Defense on border security at the Coast Guard Board meeting. I would make three nominations, and I will have one recommendation of those three that I would support. The board will then look at that, deliberate, and then make a recommendation to the prime Minister. At this point I cannot speak I am out of turn here, but as I've mentioned, the structure of the Belize coast guard is one that cannot easily be confused or rearranged for any other purpose. I mean all the leadership that was provided at the ministry in terms of our succession planning should result in no surprise, to become the next commandant of the Belize Coast Guard."
Jules-
"If it's no surprise please illuminate the obvious for me."
Admiral Elton Bennett, CEO - Home Affairs
"And it is not my call Jules. That needs to be made from the Prime Minister."
Jules-
"Is there a chance we might have our first, we could have our first woman leader of one of the armed forces in Belize?"
Admiral Elton Bennett, CEO - Home Affairs
"Jules it is not my place to indicate such as I have mentioned my job here is to make a nomination of 3 persons I believe should be considered for that assignment, and I will make a recommendation for one. And then it goes from there."
