The Ministry of the Public Service's latest memorandum has left public servants, CEO's and Heads of Department perplexed. Issued today, it effectively puts a pause on all pending government transfers for this year.

The circular says, "this Ministry hereby informs that, for the year 2026, tours of duty for officers within the Belize Public Service shall be extended by an additional period of one year…with immediate effect. Accordingly, no transfers of officers that will constitute a change in jurisdiction will be considered this year."

So that means that the meany scores of transfers which were planned or already in motion for June of this year - all those are now on pause.

The reason for the decision is unclear - but it has not been announced as a cost-saving measure and only refers to "the exigencies of the service."
