Last night we heard from Belizean national team football coach Anthony "Garrincha" Adderley about Belize's 4-0 shelling from Canada.
And via phone from Canada we will also got a perspective on how the team is doing from the only Belizean player mentioned in the press reports we read. We are talking about goalkeeper Shane Moody and from Canada he told us the weather was a factor but tomorrow night it will be a different ballgame.
Shane Moody (Orio), Goalkeeper
"I think what really had a little negative effect was the weather before the game and playing in that kind of condition is very difficult."
Keith Swift,
Do you think that you and the other players on the national team were outmatched?
Shane Moody (Orio),
"We were not outmatched. They just had more opportunities and in the second half of the game when it was 2-0 we had a chance to score a goal. Robert Muschamp missed a clear opportunity. If we had capitalized on that goal, we'd have been looking at a 2-1 ballgame, which would have changed the whole ballgame and energy level."
Keith Swift,
What can you say to Belizean football fans here at home?
Shane Moody (Orio), Goalkeeper
"Well for us on the national team out here it is very difficult to play against a roster of 22 or 18 players that are really professional."
"But we are doing our best out here. You know working hard and thinking about the second game."
Keith Swift,
And do you think you will be able to go out on the field with your heads up tomorrow?
Shane Moody (Orio),
"Yes. Like I said before, in the Canadian newspapers it was clearly printed out that it was a ugly win for Canada. And even after the game fans stood around and cheered for us because they thought it was going to be a easy 8-0 or 9-0."
Tomorrow's game is at 5:30 local time.
