And another area where they discovered mismanagement of funds was with the infrastructural upgrades of the Marion Jones Stadium and the National Sports Council.
And while he was not specifically link him to any wrongdoing, Sports Director and Patrick Faber loyalist Ian Jones became the fall guy.
Jones, who had signed a contract indicating that he would be the director until May 2022, decided to sue the government for wrongful termination and breach of contract.
Today, Minister Bernard told us that they intend to challenge this.
Hon. Kevin Bernard, Minister of Youth and Sports
"We are dealing with a pending issue at the Marion Jones. If I can tough into it, the media at some point had gone to look at facility first of all, millions of dollars had gone into that facility, completely undone, you only look at the first floor and the second floor and when you go up to the third floor, you wonder where the money get to. As you are aware we did ask Mr Jones to leave, we have a new director, at the time it was Oscar Arnold whose now the Ambassador to Mexico.

We have brought in Ian Cal, not Ian Jones, but Ian Cal. And we had hoped that Mr Jones would have done the right thing and simply resigned, low and behold he has sent a letter saying he will take the national sports council to court, and we are going to challenge that as well. I will say this though, and I've said it before, that when we look at what was happening there, maybe he can say that when he was there, he was the one who brought up the issue of the audit report and so forth. I cannot attest to that, I can say when I got there and the report that I got, people that were employed at the NSC did not show up even a day for work, equipment that was at the NSC that had disappeared overnight so these are things that we are looking at at the Marion Jones, I'm not casting any blame on Mr Jones, I'm just saying there is a lot of things that have gone wrong and we're looking into that as well."
