Tonight, the Men's Senior National Football Team is in Nicaragua. They traveled there today to play 2 friendly matches in preparation for when Belize competes in the CONCACAF Nation's League Tournament. A winning performance in the Nation's League Tournament allows national teams an opportunity to compete in the Gold Cup.
For the very first time, the Football Federation of Belize and the coaching staff have called the team into camp to train early for these international competitions. Yesterday, the FFB hosted a virtual press conference to introduce the selected athletes who have qualified to represent the country in these tournaments.
Here's what a few of the keynote speakers had to say about the team's training and preparations for the higher level of competition on the international stage:
The team is expected to return in a few days. We understand that initially, Belize, Nicaragua, and Guatemala all agreed to participate in these friendly matches, but due to problems with transportation logistics, the Guatemalan National Team has opted out.
Inflation Goes Up Again
Inflation in Belize continues to rise and The Statistical Institute of Belize is reporting that for December 2021, it was at 4.9%.
This inflation was primarily driven by higher prices for motor vehicle fuels, various food items, liquefied petroleum gas, restaurant services, and household cleaning products when compared to the same month last year.
For food and non-alcoholic beverages, there was an increase of 3.4% last month when compared to December of 2020.
Items that saw notably higher prices for the month included pigtails, coconut oil, vegetable oil, cakes, chicken wings, pineapples, and potatoes. Nonetheless, there were some price decreases noted among a few food items including some fresh produce, such as cabbages, sweet peppers, tomatoes, black beans, and red kidney beans.
