
In other sports news, the Belize Coast Guard held its first Spartan Triathlon on Friday where a total of 28 participants competed in a one mile swim, 18 miles of cycling and 6 miles running.
Vice Commandant Captain Greogry Soberanis oversaw the games.

"Today the Belize Coast Guard held its first annual spartan triathlon which consisted of a 1 mile swim and 18 mile ride and a 6 mile run. And we had a total of 28 participants who competed today in all three events both in team events and individual events. The team events consisted of three members per team, each team consisted of two males and one female.And the individual events consisted of both male and female. It started this morning at 9:00AM, the first event which was the 1 mile swim and this was completed in just over 30 mins by Mr Cucul who was the first competitor out of the water. We then proceeded to the second phase of the competition which was the 18 mile ride and again that became very competitive as the participants were able to close the gaps on each other. Which then culminated into the final event which was the six mile run."
Ensign Mauro Cucul won first place completing the triathlon in 2:08:21. Diana Velasquez won the female category in 3:03:04, and the team event was won by Sector South Dana Alford, Giovanni Lovell and Kluvert Cal in 2:15:21.
