And while residents and security forces prepare to face another hurricane, it should be noted that the hurricane season only has 30 days before it is over, and that this is the first time in 51 years that a storm may be hitting the country in November. Today, the Chief MET Officer explains that their archives only show 3 previous November storms, and that it is rare for a hurricane to approach Belize so late in the season.

"Going back into the archives, I saw three storms making landfall in Belize in November, one of them was Laura in 1971, I think that was a tropical storm, and there was a system in 1931 before we had names for hurricanes that made landfall also in November, and there's another one way back in the 18-change, that made landfall in November. But as you rightly alluded to, they're very rare."
