And, interest on Belize's tourist capital of San Pedro are probably the most concerned. Ambergris Caye is often the point of first contact for any storm - and this morning, Area Representative Andre Perez, told us he was on his way to an emergency meeting with the NEMO team responsible for Belize Rural South.
He stressed that as island communities, San Pedro and Caye Caulker have done this dance before and that are adequately prepared for weather disasters:
Andre Perez, Area Representative, Belize Rural South
"I have a meeting right now to meet with my NEMO team I want to tell you something, the people of Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker have very much experience in dealing with these storms. We do not get loosy-goosey, we always focus, we know what to do and we're having the meeting and make decisions based on what is coming to us. For now we're asking everyone to be vigilant. We have the local radio station that I'll be speaking with our people, so we have direct contact. The important thing is that we all work together. It's not only my ministry, it has to be both councils, the village council and town council, we have members from the private sector that come in and work along together and of course the Government of Belize and we're ready. We know how to do this; we've done it before and if we take the steps. If evacuation needs to occur by tomorrow, we're doing it. I already got information that the airport by tomorrow we'll have to make a decision of closing it down."

"Are you expecting flooding because of the heavy weather?"
Andre Perez, Area Representative, Belize Rural South
"Of course, that's the most important thing we have to look at is heavy rains and flooding and you all know our country is very much right now over saturated with waters right now, it is a concern. So we need to look at that and of course after this we have to look at the economic impacts that we are going to be having."
