As if bus riders don't already have enough issues, now they've got to brace for an increase in fares.
Novelo's Bus Company today issued a release, which states that the company is in the process of carrying out a fare adjustment in the near future. But before you get out your riot gear, a company spokesperson today said that the increase won't be carried out until the end of a three-month consultation process.
That consultation starts next week and the company will set up a commission to include just about every sector of society that is involved in the public transportation industry- from regulators to commuters.
Novelo's stated rationale for the price hike is that over the past year it has lost close to 8 million dollars.
Viewers will recall that the last time Novelo's implemented an increase in bus fares, it led to the Benque riot of 24th of April of 2002 where two young men were shot by BDF and police, and numerous other civilians and police officers were injured.
