On July 7th, the Ministry of Natural Resources signed the management of Goff’s Caye over to the Coastal Zone Management Authority and Institute. Well, all seems to be running on schedule as the CZMA today announced that commencing August 1st they will begin to collect their U.S. $10 entrance fee to the island a fee that will only be assessed on foreign visitors. In the coming week meetings will be held with stakeholders to acquaint them with the new management system and to answer concerns. The new entrance fee is expected to earn CZMA just over one million dollars a year, monies that will be used for the upkeep of the caye as well as the everyday operations of the authority.
