Caught on Camera: Electric Meter Explodes

It was quite the show this afternoon when an electricity meter burst into flames on Baymen Avenue. This is video captured by Nigel Freeman and as you can see, there was snapping, crackling, and a lot of sparks on the meter which is for Tong's Store. Most of the observers kept their distance and so no injuries were reported.

The fire started at about 12:30 and it was extinguished about 6 minutes before the police arrived. So who is responsible? Well Belize Electricity Limited says it was caused by faulty wiring which was placed there by the electrician retained by the customer. BEL says it will install a new meter, but only after the customer has fixed the faulty wiring. Until they do that, Tong's Store will remain in darkness.
