"Bridging gaps and breaking barriers" was the theme for the second annual Adult and Continuing Education symposium which was held yesterday at UWI's School of Continuing Studies. The session was for what are called service providers in adult and continuing studies, which means teachers for grown folks. Dr. Elizabeth Cardenas is the director of the adult and continuing studies unit of the Ministry of Education.
Dr. Elizabeth Cardenas,
"We had been discussing what we have achieved in the action plan so far and also looking at issues relating to youth empowerment and participation, workplace issues, and gender inequities. And what adult and continuing education needs to do and can do to fill those gaps, or like we say, build the bridges and breaking the barriers. Participating, like I said before, are service providers from around the country. So we have NGOs, we have service providers who work with learners for high school equivalency, primary school education, and correctional facilities, like Kolbe."
