It's been a long standoff between City Hall and central government with jobless street cleaners stranded in the middle but tonight, it is over. Today advisor to City Hall Dale Trujeque told us that in a letter from the Ministry of Finance, government has committed to deposit a total of $61,671.45 into the council's account. The money is part of the difference in extension payments for a Scotia Bank loan which is now being spread out over a 36 month payment schedule rather than a 10 month schedule as was originally planned by government, kind of like re-profiling CITCO's debt.

Now that the council has this money, Deputy Mayor Wayne Usher told us that a decision has not yet been made on how it will be used. He did give his undertaking that at least a portion of it will go to sanitation employees. However that will not be decided until tomorrow when the council and its money managers will meet.
