A week ago BEL sent 8 students to the University of Belize and tonight BTL is announcing that it will be sending 14 students to high school. In its 15th years of existence BTL's scholarship programme has sponsored over 300 youths from across the country. Today they added 14 more. We were on hand as the proud scholarship recipients got concrete commitments from BTL to pay schooling expenses for the students.
Dean Boyce, BTL
"It helps the country to develop and it is very important to keep the children is school, to give them a very good education and this is particular program is a really good opportunity to help those that may not otherwise have had the opportunity and just the little bit of support we can give is hopefully appreciated and I am sure the students will make the best use of it."
BTL spends some $50,000 a year in maintaining the program. There are presently 73 students on the scholarship program.
