The second homicide occurred outside of Benque Viejo, where 46-year-old Ignacio Nix Toj of El Naranjo Guatemala was killed. This afternoon, police brought his body to the Belize City morgue. At around 8:40 last night Toj was at a farm situated about three miles from the junction with mile ten on the hydro road when three Guatemalan men came to his house. The men asked for food which he gave them. But 20 minutes after that bellyful, one of the men held up Toj at gunpoint and shot him to the neck and the back of the head. He was found lying dead on a bed with these injuries.
Police have focused their investigation on the possibility that it is a revenge killing. Back in 1998 Nix Toj was the victim of a robbery during which he was shot. Three days later, the robber who shot Nix Toj was found dead. Belize police are now seeking the Guatemalans whom they believed escaped through a feeder road that leads into Arenal Village.
