Mayor Zenaida Moya has made it clear that in her bid to improve conditions in Belize City she would be actively soliciting assistance from the private sector. Today one business stepped up to pitch in to make Belize City a better place. Traveler's Liquors today officially adopted a park. It's one located on Seashore Drive and Traveler's Romel Perdomo says they took up the mantle because a number of his employees live in the area of the park.
Romel Perdomo, Traveler's Liquors
"In that area where we are about twenty percent of our employees live in that area there, in that division, and their kids go to play at the park and we see the need to fix up the park. And with all the crime and everything that's happening in Belize, we're trying to make a contribution so that the kids could grow up in a environment where they could play ball and enjoy the breeze and enjoy being in a park instead of going around trying to think about committing crimes.
We will physically take care of the park. We have an arm of our business that does construction, we have about ten construction men, and we will send them out there to fix the sidewalk, we will do all the landscaping, and we will be paying somebody for time weekly to clean the park and take care of it.
We will fix the court, we will put the lights back on, and this is very important for the community and it is also very important to show example to the other business people in Belize that are making money, that they need to do something for the community."
