Organizers say that everyone loves a boat and so if you own one, if you want to buy one, want to look at one, or if you just want to ride in one, then "Old Belize" should be on your itinerary this weekend. Old Belize is the venue for Rotary's 2nd annual Boat Show and Sale. On the Cucumber Beach Marina there will be sail boats, speed boats, and other water crafts in addition to marine products and services.
The highlight of the two days will be a boat auction scheduled for Sunday afternoon. Organizers hope to raise an ambitious $15,000 which will be channeled into Rotary's Gift of Life Program to help children in need of medical treatment. Organizer Francis Woods told us more.
Francis Woods, Rotary Belize
"I haven't met anybody that doesn't love boats so anybody can come to this one. We have lots of neat stuff from used items, marine supplies, to brand new engines to next to new boats, and so anybody can come and enjoy the view of the boats. There will also be a boat, probably the fastest diesel boat in Belize, built in Belize, and it will be giving rides. It is called the 'reef rocket,' it will be doing runs from San Pedro to Belize and there will be raffling rides for that on Saturday and Sunday."
Keith Swift,
Why should people come?
Francis Woods,
"To support a worthy cause and to support a worthy industry, a good industry, a growing industry in Belize. Belize has the second largest barrier reef in the world and we do have a strong marine industry. You just have to go to San Pedro one time and you will see the amount of boats out there."
Gates open 9 am tomorrow and close at 5. Admission is $4 with the exception of children under 12 who enter free. Last year the show raised $10,000 and Woods says that this year their target is $15,000.
