On May 2nd the Public Utilities Commission rejected BEL's proposal to eliminate the $10 service charge on light bills and to increase some kilowatt hour charges. Well now, it looks like an independent consultant will have the final say. That is because both the government and BEL have objected to the PUC's decision.
The government's bone of contention is the $10 service charge which BEL wanted to eliminate and which the government promised to eliminate. BEL's problem is with the PUC which the company says violated the law.
The independent expert should be appointed next week and a final decision should be made by June 26th.
