It’s got an AC, a bathroom on board, and bucket seats, but west-bound morning commuters on National Transport won’t be riding in any of their premiere buses anytime soon. And that’s because the Commissioner of Transport says they need special road service permits to run an express service. It may sound like they are getting caught up in the rules but according Commissioner, Candelaria Saldivar-Mortiz, procedure must be adhered to.
“National Transport” has a license to run buses east to west from 5 am to noon – and at that time they’re the only westbound bus on the road. So they added an express run at the start of this week figuring if they’re the only ones on the road at that time, it couldn’t be called unfair competition. But the Department of Transport immediately put a stop to it.
Commissioner Saldivar-Mortiz says that express runs require a specified road service permit, one which the National did not apply for. She went on to say that if they apply for this special permit and go through the procedure, their application would be considered within the next month or so.
