And according to the anonymous insider who told us yesterday about the deliberate rigging of flow meters by butane companies, the large butane company he worked for does have scales - it's just that they don't use them. Why? Well because then there's no way to cheat you the consumer! Here are his remarks on that. Again, we had to conceal his identity and mask his voice:…..
Butane Company Employee
"You have companies that have scale but the scale was used in a older, in the past. Now they have an updated technology that they call technology by meter and refusing to use the scale and the scale is giving you a much more accurate result than the meters. Again, the meters can be tampered with. The scale comes just like a regular weighing scale, one of those old time weighing scales that has the barbell looking figure on it, or the numbers. That cannot be replaced, the weight on it, is the weight on it. So, to get a better result would be to go back again is to be using the scale so the consumer itself know that placing the hundred pound tank, would be a hundred pound you get of LPG, not getting 85 or 65 or 70 pounds of LPG."
Interestingly, another former employee for one of the big importers today told us that the company he worked at had a term called "inventory efficiency" - which meant that the operation had to realize a minimum 10% margin of inventory efficiency every month. It may sound like a high tech management term, but all it really means, is that the company had to cheat consumers out of at least 10% of their inventory monthly for the operation to run profitably.
