Two men accused of rape were acquitted today of the charges in the Corozal Supreme court. 22 year old Ivan Sosa and 21 year old Herby Narvaez were charged with raping a 16 year old high school student in Corozal on November 8th, 2008. The girl, a third form student at the time, testified that she was drinking vodka and orange juice whilst socializing with the defendants. She stated that when she went to use the bathroom, she was followed by the two men who both sexually assaulted her. Sosa and Narvaez both gave statements from the dock admitting having sex with the girl, but they said it was with her consent. The case was tried in the court of Justice Denis Hano-man-singh. The men were represented by Attorney Simeon Sampson, while Senior Crown Counsel Cecil Ramirez represented the prosecution.
