A spray of gunfire was heard just before the close of business at 4:55 pm in the heart of the city's commercial area today. The victims were a man and a woman who were on Albert Street - both were injured.
7news arrived on the scene at the same time as police - who were scrambling to canvass the area.
From what we understand, shots were fired out of a blue van. According to eyewitnesses and police, the shooting spree begun from Wagner's Lane all the way up South Street and around the corner unto Albert street. Here at 7news - which is just a block away, we heard a spray of shots fired in close succession, as if coming from an automatic weapon.
Derek Clarke and Rose Arnold were shot. Clarke was shot in his left lower stomach, left hand and right foot - while Arnold - a street person who traffics the area - was shot to the right foot. We are still uncertain if the two victims were walking at the time of the incident. Armed police officer and BDF soldiers were still patrolling the area up to news time. We'll have more on this story in tomorrow's newscast.
