Last night, we told you the latest in the dispute between Belize Electricity Limited and the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, which is owned by George Hardie Senior, his son, and his investment partners.
The management of the Hotel and Casino reported that last Friday evening, the electricity company shut off power to their facilities, which are located in the Corozal Free Zone. The Hotel's management is disputing the size of their electricity bill because according to them, they've been completely closed since March of last year when the very first State of Emergency for COVID was declared.
You'll remember that Hardie wrote a letter to several government officials hoping that maybe the Prime Minister or the Chairman of BEL's Board of Directors could intervene on their behalf before BEL cut them off.
We've since seen an email in which Prime Minister John Briceno indicates that he heard their plea for help.
In an email response to the executive secretary of the Las Vegas Hotel and Casino, Briceno said, quote, "I acknowledge receipt of [the] email. I shall pass it on to the Chairman of the Board to follow up." End quote.
