Tonight, a delegation of Belizeans from the Ministry of the Blue Economy and Civil Aviation are in Montreal, Canada.
Minister Andre Perez is heading that delegation, and they are there to attend the 41st General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization.
Belize's Delegation also held two high-level bilateral sessions today. Perez and his team met with Dr. Amy Khor, the Senior Minister of State in the Ministry of Transport and Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment of Singapore. A central topic was Singapore's support for the development of the Belize Airport Hub City, particularly the cargo hub, and noted, quote, "an exploratory visit is imminent." Two sides also discussed Singapore's continued support for capacity building for the technical staff of the Belize Department of Civil Aviation.
Minister Perez also met with the Minister of Transport of Qatar. Discussions included support for the Belize Airport Hub concept as well as a feasibility study and transition plan for the devolution of the Belize Department of Civil Aviation to a Civil Aviation Authority.
Shortly after those meetings concluded today, Perez granted 7News an interview via Zoom teleconference. Here's what he had to say about the major economic boon that Belize would enjoy if such an Airport Hub City became a reality:
Perez is joined by Kennedy Carrillo, the CEO of the Ministry of Blue Economy and Civil Aviation; Nigel Carter, the Director of the Belize Department of Civil Aviation; and Roniece Caliz, the Chief Operations Officer of the Belize Department of Civil Aviation.
