Thinking of higher education but can't see a way to pay for it? Well, the CDB may have some good news for you.

It's an initiative called The Belize Student Loan Project and its set to assist close to 800 learners pursuing post-secondary and tertiary programmes. The 6 Million US dollars which were recently approved by the CDB will be made available to DFC to, quote "assist students seeking training in areas pertinent to GOB's human resource development strategy." When asked about the approval, CDB's Vice President of Operations said quote: "…it is critical that Belizean students have access to education and training to meet the future needs of the labour force,"

In Belize, legislators have cited the fact that prohibitive interest rates and unfriendly loan arrangements have made it difficult for those students seeking further education to access funding. Currently the DFC is the only institution that offers student loans on terms which allow debtors to start paying back after they finish their studies. We asked the DFC for comment on when the new funding would come on stream but they said they would do so at a later date.
