And, like we said, that was the second murder in 36 hours. The first happened last night at around 8:00 when Central American Boulevard was thrown into chaos as yet another street shooting sent out waves of fear and panic.
The victims Glenford Soberanis and Kevin Gillette were rushed to the KHMH for treatment with initial reports that both were stable, but by this morning Gillette was dead.
I headed down the Boulevard this morning to speak to Kevin's favourite cousin. Here's what she told me about the man the Gillette's have lost;
29-year-old Kevin Gillette lost his life early this morning after becoming the victim of a shootout.
It happened last night around 8:00 in the vicinity of Arlington Drive and McKenzie Lane. Video captured by a bystander shows the frenzy of police activity after the shooting.
It's the last thing his family could have expected:
Florette Requena, Cousin of the Deceased

"Well, when I reached down I got the message and I went to his common law and she told me that he went to buy Fonto and it was him that supposedly get shot but he was just at the wrong place at the wrong time."
And Kevin may have also been standing beside the wrong person.
Back in February, the other shooting victim, Glenford Soberanis was charged with 4 counts of Attempted murder, use of deadly means of harm and Grievous harm. He was shot in the foot and reportedly discharged himself this morning.
But, Gillette's body is in the morgue - he will leave there in a coffin - and his family only has the memories of a cousin, brother, son, and partner.
Florette Requena, Cousin of the Deceased
"Kevin was a hustler, he was a nice young man. He lived. With his common law for six years and he was an outgoing somebody. He was not a troubled type person. He was always quiet kept to himself. He smoked his little weed, hustled what he needed to, and goes home as far as I can remember."
But the family still has questions about Kevin's passing. They wonder whether his injuries were serious enough to cause his death, or whether it was some kind of negligence on the part of the hospital:
Florette Requena, Cousin of the Deceased
"Well it hurts a whole lot and like my people they want to get the understanding from the hospital. They call and well the common law called and they said Kevin will be okay. He will be okay. According he got a shot to his shoulder as far as we know and he should have been okay so when after 1:00 AM. So like my family, they can't get here because they are in America but they would want to know how comes a guy could die with a gunshot at the shoulder. That is what we would want to know ourselves."
And whether or not anyone but the gunman is at fault here, Kevin Gillette's absence is already felt
Florette Requena, Cousin of the Deceased
"To be honest this is just shocking because I wouldn't expect that Kevin would go like this like you know, Kevin was a humble humble youth."
Kevin Gillette didn't have any children but his cousin says he had been a father figure to several young children.
