Last Thursday, we told you about the reports which were flooding into our newsroom that the National Environmental Appraisal Committee, NEAC, has unanimously voted no to the PBL/Waterloo Development Project at the Port of Belize.

Well, today, a week later, the Belize Chamber of Commerce and Industry sent us a press release to clarify that they didn't vote "no" to the project.

Their press release says,s quote, "We wish to clarify that the BCCI voted in favor of the project, which meant that NEAC's decision was not unanimous.

The BCCI's representative was unable to attend the meeting due to extenuating circumstances, so the BBCI's vote did not take into account any technical or scientific comments from other NEAC members, which were shared at the meeting on the 24th of November. This disclaimer was recorded in the vote submitted by BCCI to NEAC.

As the largest private sector membership-based organization with the objective of championing the social and economic advancement of Belize through the development of all sectors of industry, commerce, and services, the Chamber voted in favor of the expansion and improvement of the port."

End quote.
