Belize's Aquaculture or shrimp farming industry has been in sharp decline ever since 2014 when a viral infestation wiped out shrimp farms causing the loss of tens of millions of dollars of export earnings.
Since, then it has been a struggle to get the once thriving industry back on its feet. They have gone from 17 viable farms to 7 that are struggling to stay open and put out product.
But, in a landscape where the citrus is on its last, and bananas are struggling, there is renewed effort to resuscitate shrimp farming.
