In other news, overnight tourism arrivals have seen a sharp increase over the first half of 2023, with May being the only month that didn't do so well. However, January and February saw the greatest increase compared to that same period in 2022. So yesterday we asked the minister to outline his expectations for the second half of the year.

Anthony Mahler, Minister of Tourism

"We're putting in a lot of work trying to promote these festivals that we're having all across the world. We're talking to different operators and wholesalers across the world to- we don't want to call it the slow season anymore, I call it the green season rather than slow season because that has a negative connotation but we have strategically marketed Belize for the lower part of the season so we can kind of taper off that dive that we usually see. July started well, we saw June did well and we foresee that we will have a good summer season."
