There was a fire this afternoon at a Print Shop in the ButtonWood Bay area. The neighbor said she heard a pop - followed by a blaze that consumed the majority of the contents inside the solar powered business.
But thanks to a quick response from the Fire Department, the building, and the truck parked next to the business were saved. But what exactly started this fire? We were informed by a neighbor who tends to the print shop on occasion, that an electrical issue may have been the cause.
Voice of: Margret Usher, Neighbour
"I went back to work at 1:20 and as I entered into the house and sit around my desk I never sat comfortable when I hear a popping noise, popping noise and I got up and I asked my son because we work together. I asked him I salad Lance what is that? He said I have no idea and we sit down again continue to do the work and we here another popping noise, I said Lance that doesn't sound right and the popping started to come louder and louder and more frequent."
"So we got up and gone to the back and take off all the electricity the plugs and Whatever was pertaining to electricity we take that off all of that and we take off the AC Everything in the office was completely off. Nothing was on and while that happened we hear some more popping and we went to the back of the battery place there and I said this doesn't sound right and he said a fume is in here best we don't stay in here because something started to let out a fume. And he said let's go outside and we both come out of the office and while we come came out of the office all we herd was a big pop and when we looked back we saw a flame in that part of the building there. The Flame just started."
"We tried to get the electricity board. Trying to get the Fire station and everything so that we need help. If we had gone through to the electricity board I think they would have more helped us because they could have cut the electricity right. But we get that done anyway and that's when the fire started. We have solar systems inside the office so the machines work on solar system but we didn't have it on we take it off so we don;t know where the shortage came from, the electricity shortage but it is a shortage from somewhere along that line."
Usher says that all the printing equipment inside the shop could not be saved. The total loss in damages has yet to be determined.
