And for the last months, Gazans have not had easy access to clean water and electricity. Their communication towers have been destroyed by Israel, and their bakeries bombed, so even getting bread to eat is a struggle. Hospitals have run out of fuel and whole neighborhoods have been obliterated.

But still, the Palestinians continue to fight to survive. And - in a flash of rose tinted optimism - Shoman says it's the people who will be the victors.

"The people will win in the end, Jules. "

Jules Vasquez:
"But that is your mythology but the fact is that the states."

"They have power. But no empire lasts forever and the US empire is a shrinking and a dying empire, you know tat. The US dollar, the almighty dollar, how long you think that's going to last?"

Jules Vasquez:
"That's another conversation. "

Assad Shoman, Belizean-Palestinian
"You know what's happening in the world, how long will this empire last? You can't put a time on it but it won't last forever".

Jules Vasquez:
"They're doing all they can. But we understand which way the world is going and the giant is rising in the East but that's another matter. So we have the US and the UK as you were saying protecting imperialist and capitalist interests but I'm saying once you have these people behind you, and they've approved how much in military spending? $13 billion?"

Assad Shoman, Belizean-Palestinian
"On top of the usual."

Jules Vasquez:
"I'm saying, so what happens next? The world is increasingly calling out for it, that there must be a ceasefire, you're having a war against a country with no army, right? "

Assad Shoman, Belizean-Palestinian
"Against a people really. "

Jules Vasquez:
"Against a people, that's right. What ends it in your opinion? Or what forces the Israeli to stop? Will they only stop when they have eradicated the Palestinians? And even if they do that, they'll still have to deal with you. "

Assad Shoman, Belizean-Palestinian
"The people are always there. You cannot destroy a movement, an idea."

We note that we are in communication with the Israeli Embassy in Mexico to get their side of the story later this month.
