Importing Sugar Forces Prices Up

And quicker than you can say "Yo Creek Compromise" - today it was announced that the price of white sugar is going up. Now many are attributing this to last night's signing, but in fact we know that ASR/BSI is now importing sugar - at a higher price than it is produced locally so the increase is a reflection of that.

That's why the notice speaks to a temporary selling price of $59.26 per 50 pound bag of sugar.

IT adds, quote, "This price is only temporary due to the market shortages created by unauthorized cross border trade which necessitated the temporary importation of white sugar. Prices will revert to normal once this stock is depleted and production of white sugar from the 2024 crop commences."
