With Expected Tourism Downturn, BTB Looks To Canada

But Sargassum aside, the IMF had recently warned that economic growth is predicted to slow down for Belize, and part of that reason is a predicted downturn in tourism. We asked Mahler what solutions have they been exploring to prevent this, and he told us that they have been looking at marketing in Canada. Here's why.

"Well like Covid, we had a plan and it is the same thing to just change our marketing approach into different areas, Canada being one of them. We just announced a new flight out of Canada, so hopefully the predictions are wrong and we don't see that big of a downturn for tourism. Like I said, we are looking good for July and hopefully that trend continues."
