Minister of Home Affairs Kareem Musa and his Commissioner of Police Dr Richard Rosado are on a familiarization tour of the country, getting to know the intricacies of police stations, substations and formations. Today they were in San Pedro and here's how that tour went on the island.
Dr Richard Rosado, Commissioner of Police

"I think the reception was good both from within the community and from our police officers. We are basically here just to understand and have a one to one with our police officers hence the reason why the minister decided to visit the San Pedro police station it's part of his countrywide tour."
Kareem Musa, Minister of Home Affairs

"San Pedro is a growing developing destination it's a total of 36 miles and we are looking at one main police station here that covers this entire region and so it is no longer that small fishing village but a budding town and we all know what it does for the economy of Belizeans and so we all have to put more and more resources here in San Pedro and so when you look at the types of crime for instance we recently had a murder in San Pedro I think the department has addressed that issue in terms of organized crime in the North of the island by putting a substation there and a patrol there by our special patrol unit but again it doesn't stop the fact that activities like that still take place and you still have rival members that will often go at each other. And we are looking at where it is we need to put our resources and that is definitely one of the areas where we have to revisit like you said if you see a lot of crime increasing in a particular area that is when you put the resources in there so that is something we are looking at."
