And from before exportation even became a possibility, Minister Mai has always been vocal in supporting the potential of a Coconut industry in Belize, He says that it's not limited to only large scale farmers, but anyone who has a couple of trees and is willing to sell.
Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture & Food Security
"Well right now we have 2 big companies that are supplying and will supply coconuts to BMDC. But we are opening for all the small farmers. If you have ten coconut trees in your backyard and you want to sell them to BMDC you can bring them and we pack them and we sell them. It's like that for everybody. This market opportunity to Mexico opens the industry to a totally different level so if you have ten coconut trees or ten thousand there is no difference you can bring it here. We wash it, pack it and export to Mexico."
