But in exporting our Coconuts how will this impact those who heavily rely on the fruit for other products, like coconut oil, milk and water. Mai assured us that there is enough to go around for everyone and he feels they do not run any risk of a domestic shortage:

Jose Abelardo Mai, Minister of Agriculture & Food Security

"The demand for fresh coconuts has just increased tremendously and everyone wants coconuts. It is fresh, nutritious and it is local. You see trucks moving to the city daily with coconuts. Our coconut production starts next year we are going to have here in Orange Walk, a thousand acres coming into production. We have Ogregon, we have Silk Grass, we have Blue Creek and we have all these starting next year so we have enough coconut that you won't be able to drink all of it. So Belize is a small country and you can saturate the market quite easily. We cannot wait for all the production to come in to start to find a market and so we have to study the market good. All of our protocols in place, all our marketing arrangements in place so when the product comes in we are ready to export. We cannot afford to have the production come in and we do not have the facility that would be a disaster right? I don't think we will run out of coconuts. Believe me we have enough coconuts in this country."
