So since the new payment system is expected to make the process shorter for applying for temporary employment permits, can it also lead to a reduction in the labor shortage we have been seeing in the agricultural industry? We asked the minister about this today and here's what he said.
Florencio Marin, Minister of Rural Transformation & Labor
"We just, was it last week or the week before, cabinet approved an initiative to be able to now tap into the other labor resources the country has. You know for some reason women are underrepresented in the workforce we also have our young people under represented in the work force and as well we need to be able to bring in migrant workers to be able to assist us to fill this gap if we want our economy to continue on the growth path we need labor you know? And so we start at home first with the under representation for our women workers and for our youths, then we proceed to the migrants them."
