And going back to the tourism industry news we've been reporting on since last week - most of the coverage has been on the coming high season.
But what about the low season - in the summer - when many resorts, hotels and restaurants actually close due to low visitor numbers.
President of the Belize Hotel Association Reynaldo Malik says that the drop in visitors during the summer stems from another issue, namely the the cost of flights which prevents large families from visiting:
Reynaldo Malik, President, Belize Hotel Association
"I think that really what impacted us cost of flights did not drop in the summer. Talking about the international flights that didn't drop in the summer. And summer is when you traditionally see your family travel, right. Your family units are three, 4 or 5 persons. Obviously the non adults in the family unit aren't paying for the trip. It's coming down to mom and dad. So when you have ticket prices that are not falling below 700 to 700 US, 800 US round trip, and then you do the the math on that and you realize, oh well, wait a minute. Right now you're talking like $4,000 and just plane tickets alone for a family of five. That gets very scary for a lot of people and on a for doing rate on affordable. So I think that also played a contributory factor. In the down slide in August and September."
