Today, Cabinet heard BTL's pitch to acquire Speednet and tonight we can report that they have not taken a decision.

BTL Chairman, Mark Lizarraga, CEO Ivan Tesucum and CFO Ian Cleverly went to the Cabinet room this afternoon to make the case for acquisition.

This evening when the two hour plus presentation was finished Minister of Public Utilities Chebat said they will take a decision when BTL's ongoing consultation process is finished:

Michel Chebat, Minister of Public Utilities, Energy and Logistics

"I think it was a thorough presentation. You know Cabinet had not yet been briefed and so we welcomed this presentation today."

"Cabinet has not made a position we are waiting for the process to take place, we understand there are some consultations going on and we want to allow that to happen first."

So far BTL's executive team has made presentations to the Social Security Board, the Belize Communications Workers' Union, and the executive committee of the NTUCB. All this comes after a failed board vote on the acquisition on January 9th - the lead up to which forced at least one board member to resign.
