Despite the new regime not coming into effect and applying to villages, King says that business owners are still interested in getting their trade license to legitimize their business:

Clifford King, Director of Local Government

"We still have persons who are persons who have very small businesses in the rural space that come and ask for a trade license because many of them use it as a source of funds document for the banks. The bank is seeing these deposits made into your account. And so what do you do? How do you legitimately earn these? A lot of these small businesses that are under the 600 square feet threshold come and ask for um come and ask for uh And because there is no rural scheme, they come to the nearest town or city to ask for that trade license certificate."

"And they're given it?"

Clifford King, Director of Local Government
"I don't know if any instances where they have been denied, but I know that these trade boards explain to these persons, listen, you don't, you are not obligated to get it, and you're not obligated to pay for it. But if you want it, in many cases, they are facilitating."
