Today a video began circulating of a child in a Belmopan grocery store who was violently struck by a man.
There was speculation around the circumstances which led to him being hit, and his family reached out to our newsroom for clarification. The boy was purchasing at a grocery in the Market Square area of Belmopan when the store owners were driving the mentally ill man out of the store.
In his anger, he lashed out and knocked out the 10 year old boy who has since been transported to Belize City for further checkups on his condition and injuries.
As newstime this evening, we have not received any reports of police detaining the man but we do know that he has been labeled as dangerous by several residents in Belmopan. Additionally, the family condemns the posting of the minor's unblurred face on social media platforms.
