And going back now to our interview with the PM, he has once again sided with the Belize Communication Workers for Justice, saying that, one way or another, BTL has to pay them their severance.
The media asked him about the 6-year limitation period that BTL had noted in their press release - suggesting that those who passed that period may not be entitled to the severance.
But the PM isn't buying that and says that his party aligns with the workers' movement.
John Briceno, Prime Minister
"Listen, when it comes to workers' rights, we have a very, very strong record and history. We've, our party, started off in the Labour Union and we believe strongly and we will push BTL to ensure that these people be paid."
"Now, I can't promise you I could give them one check immediately, but obviously because it's millions of dollars, maybe they have to work out a payment scheme, but we're going to make sure that they get paid."
Reports suggest the bill for the full severance payout is estimated at over 20 million dollars.
