And even considering the many challenges, the Minister remains optimistic. He said that the NBC is in its infancy and they are still modernizing an industry with many issues. A part of the changes will be scheduling, better equipment and better runs especially in the south through the Coastal Highway:
Dr. Louis Zabaneh, Minister of Transport
"Well, you see, there are multiple challenges. We are modernizing sector that had numerous issues. So it's not just the equipment, that's one of the main issues, the poor quality of equipment. It's also that the schedules needed to be rationalized. where in some cases you have too many buses leaving at the same time and leading to racing and unsafe practices on the highways. And then in other cases, there are no buses or not enough buses leaving at certain times and on certain days. So all of that is being worked on. NBC should be putting out an updated schedule for the south and west within the next couple of weeks or so and give information commuters enough time for them to understand what the schedules are and to make inputs into them as well. For example, from the salt, A lot of buses, most of the buses have been coming through Belmopan. However, you have people who want to go to Belize City or they want to go to Hattieville or anywhere past the coastal road to Belize City. But yet they have to come all the way to Belmopan and wait there while the bus stops and puts on people, etc. So that could be up to a whole hour."
"Instead, we have now a big investment we've made in the coastal road. A lot of these runs will now be going through the coastal road and enhancing the experience. reducing the time for commuters getting to Belize City. That's just one example of an improvement that's coming very soon."
