Crime Stoppers is an internally successful community action group which has been established in Belize. Today, Crime Stoppers donated a computer to the Police Department. Sure, it may be only one unit but this computer will make a world of difference. It will receive transcripts of phone calls made to the 922 hotline a hotline that will now be answered by operators in Miami-Dade County in operators who don't know the identity of the person that’s calling. We found out how it works.

Lauren Reardon Smith, Rotary Centennial Committee
‘Crime Stoppers is a program that is completely community based. It is a community project with the help of the media and the police. Basically the media gets the informnation out to the public that a crime has been committed. The public then responds by calling a totally free 922 call. That call will be directed to Miami in the US. That call is completely free and completely anonymous. As you give your information, it is entered into software which will be on a computer here. Our crime stoppers coordinator here will download that information but he will not know who called in because the code name given originally. The operators in Miami extract as much information as possible from the callers."
