Yesterday we told you about 16 year old Mark Jones who police shot in the buttocks. Yesterday we gave you the family's side, and today police say that they responded to a call that two men were riding through the St. Martin's de Porres area with a firearm which had been pointed at a resident in the area. Police spotted the two young men on bicycles and pursued them to Tibruce Street where they abandoned the bicycles and ran off in different directions. That's where they followed Mark Jones is alleged to have ran into some bushes where police asked him to surrender.
But police claim that Jones came out brandishing what appeared to be a sawed off shotgun which they say he refused to drop. The police opened fire on the young man hitting him in the right buttock. Police say they recovered the sawed off shotgun from the area and apprehended the young man whom they say continued to resist arrest.
Yesterday family members told us that 16-year-old Jones was shot and beaten by police after he had been subdued. Police are preparing charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and aggravated assault which will be laid as soon as he gets out of hospital where he is recovering from the gunshot that entered his buttock and exited his groin area.
