Belmopan police have no one detained after a daring weekend robbery in the capital.
On Friday evening at 6:15, two KBH security guards, Macavio Sho and Constancio Cho, along with supervisor, Catherine Polonio went to the First Caribbean Bank parking lot to make a night deposit totaling over a quarter million dollars in cash and cheques for the DFC, BTL, and Social Security. As they pulled up, two gunmen walked out from behind the bank and held them at gunpoint. They ordered them to lie on the ground of the abandoned parking lot, and took a knapsack containing all the money from inside the car. From there, the two men ran off on foot.
The tragedy of the whole thing is that the security guard who still had a revolver at his side never fired a shot at the fleeing men. In total, they got off with $60,346 in cash and $222,346 in cheques. The greatest volume of cash, $30,000 was for BTL, while DFC had $27,000 in cash.
Police had detained a KBH employee for questioning, but he has since been released.
